When Jesus was walking on the earth with His disciples, He often challenged them with the concepts of the Kingdom of God that flew in the face of the natural course of thinking. We see that Jesus entrusted much to His disciples and He chose to entrust those who would betray Him with the gift of His presence, teaching and walking in His power. He taught His disciples to pray and to proclaim in such a way that people were drawn to have personal encounters with God that ultimately changed the face of history.
One concept that is permeating the New Testament is the concept of Prayer Evangelism. This phrase was coined by Ed Silvoso and is taken from Jesus’ instruction to His disciples in Luke 10:1-20 on how to reach cities, and prepare them for Jesus to enter into them. We also see Paul exhort Timothy in this practice in 1Timothy 2:1-4. With Prayer Evangelism there is a reality of compassion for the city and a heart that is willing to see all come to know God.
Simply, Prayer Evangelism is talking to God about your neighbors before talking to your neighbors about God. This is where the desire to see change in your family, neighborhood and workplace begins to take form. You are the only one who can ask God to bless the people that you come in contact with in that moment. God is longing to partner with those who are willing to bless. Here are the principles as we see them in action in Luke 10.
