Year 5777, Prophetic, Insight

Prophetic Importance of the Jewish Year 5777

Sermon preached on 10/2/2016 – Hidden Valley Worship Center

Jewish New Year 5777

This evening is the beginning of Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year.  Every year we take a moment to look at the dates, to understand the significance that we can see prophetically in a year.

For those who are not familiar, here is a cursory review of what Rosh Hoshanah is: in traditional Judaism, it means literally “head of the year” and is celebrated as New Years.  It’s celebrated in the month of Tishri and is the 7th new moon of the year and usually falls in September or October.  This day marks the beginning of what is called the “Days of Awe”.  This is a time of repentance and preparation.  Along with this is the feast of trumpets where through differing blasts of shofars (rams Horns).  They were to put a sound in the air in a certain order, with varying significance: a coronation of a king, repentance, to awaken the soul and an expunging of the soul through a long blast that went as long as possible.

At this time each year, we want to consider the significance of what God is saying to us about the upcoming year on His calendar.  The thing that we must understand is not about formulas, comparison’s or reading a lot into all of the mystical beliefs about Hebrew numerology which can actually become a form of idolatry (Kabballah), but this is God giving us some clues about what He is doing this upcoming year and we want to listen to the Holy Spirit when there are things being sparked.

I study a lot of perspectives and listen to the Holy Spirit on what He is doing so that we can partner in our expectation and our actions.  I have done this for 4 years now and I am always amazed at what God shows us and how He brings to pass the things that He shows us.

God Reveals Mysteries

He wants us prepared for what He is doing in year 5777 and He is not a God that chooses to keep His will, His plans and mysteries silent from His kids.

Daniel 2:27-30 27 Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, “The secret which the king has demanded, the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, and the soothsayers cannot declare to the king. 28 But there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and He has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will be in the latter days. Your dream, and the visions of your head upon your bed, were these: 29 As for you, O king, thoughts came to your mind while on your bed, about what would come to pass after this; and He who reveals secrets has made known to you what will be. 30 But as for me, this secret has not been revealed to me because I have more wisdom than anyone living, but for our sakes who make known the interpretation to the king, and that you may know the thoughts of your heart.

Last year for example we talked about the significance of the year looking at the Jewish Calendar year of 5776.  There is a picture here and the ancient Hebrew was symbolic.  The picture was of 5, symbolizing receiving Grace (a man with arms wide open) and God’s greater conception (700- a pic of a seed with a connotation of finality) mixed with an eye (70) signifying the ability to see and the 6 is a picture of a peg.  The idea is that we would see the things that needed to be nailed down in our lives, alignments and shifts in relationships for the sake of building.  The pegs were meant for building, and some were used to create a covering, like tent pegs.  The peg was also used as a weapon to kill the sleeping enemy by Jael while Barak an enemy of God slept in her tent (Judges 4:17-22).  We saw this dramatic shift in many of our lives.  Relationships changed and we see that an alignment is happening in the Kingdom.  A year of God’s grace received, to birth heavenly alignments.

Now we come to this new year 5777.

We can see a few similarities clearly, but when certain combinations come together, we can see a greater picture of what God is doing.

With the 5 we see that man is opening his arms to God to receive.  This is a symbol of receiving God’s grace to work in our lives.  We then see that we have 700 which is the concept of complete conception mixed with 70 (the eye) and which combined is showing that we can see the revelation of what God is creating.  We can see with this that God has been bringing a greater revelation to the church in the last 7 years of what His kingdom of heaven on earth looks like, a greater understanding.

What is interesting this year is the 7 and is the number of completeness and perfection (both physical and spiritual). It derives much of its meaning from being tied directly to God’s creation of all things. According to Jewish tradition, the creation of Adam occurred on October 7th, 3761 B.C. (or the first day of Tishri, which is the seventh month on the Hebrew calendar). The word ‘created’ is used 7 times describing God’s creative work (Genesis 1:1, 21, 27 three times; 2:3; 2:4). There are 7 days in a week and God’s Sabbath is on the 7th day.  Interestingly as well, the number 7 is used 54 times in the book of revelation.

One thing that I would note for the year 5777 here is that the letter Zayin or 7 is a picture of a weapon, a plow, tool in the ancient Pictographic Hebrew.  This is often used to symbolize nourishment or food as well.

I think that we can easily agree that the number 777 is a symbol of God’s completed work and perfection.  Where as we know that 666 symbolizes all those things that fall short of God’s perfection.  One simple way to look at this year is to see this as a year to recognize the completed work and perfection of God’s grace revealed.

Here is the thing that I believe we need to grab for this year:  God’s grace received is completing the forming and the revealing of His weapons.  God is raising up those who will be the weapons (the warriors, the fighters in the kingdom of God) because of the completed work of Grace that He is doing in us.

Keys to fulfilling the will of God this year!

  1. Hold to your prophetic words, and learn to utilize them in your fight.

1 Timothy 1:18-19 18This command I commit to you my son Timothy in accordance with the prophecies given about you before that you might fight a good fight 19in faith and good conscience. Those who have rejected this (the command to fight with the prophetic word and good conscience) have lost their faith.

Becoming like Christ in character and being able to live righteously according to His Word, is critical to fighting for the Kingdom of God, and we also need to listen to the deeply personal words that God gives us.  We need to fight for those things that God has embedded in our hearts.  The wonderful thing about the active voice of God is that not only does it direct us, but it empowers us to battle and fight for those things that God longs for us to partner with Him on.

  1. Confess before many your destiny in Christ.

1 Timothy 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

The power of speaking forth the things of God is critical to seeing things come to pass.  We know that God’s plans and purposes are not hidden from us, and we need to declare and confess all that God is giving us.  We have an amazing responsibility to call forth all the things that God is speaking. This will keep you focused, in line, and overcoming the battles ahead.

  1. Allow your fight of faith (obedience) to avenge every area where the enemy has had a foothold.

2 Corinthians 10:3-6 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare arenot carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish (primarily avenge) all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.

Many of us have many things in our memory and history that seem to haunt us, or continue to push us into the mire of the past.  One of the greatest things that we can do in the present is to overcome the battles in our thinking through radical obedience. When we walk in obedience we are bringing vengeance upon the disobedience in the past.  By overcoming, we are allowing God to begin to re-write our history, its impact and power in our lives.

4. Receive the grace to endure every trial.

1 Peter 1:8-11 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. 10 But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle  11 To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever.

Peter says that it is the God of all grace that will establish, strengthen and settle us.  We need the grace to endure the trials that come.  The concept of suffering is the same as endurance. The endurance we need is the willingness to continue to believe regardless of the circumstances.  Also remember that we can receive favor and grace through the brotherhood of saints that we fight for the Kingdom of God with.

Step into your destiny as a warrior this year!

God’s grace received is completing the forming and the revealing of His weapons. God is strengthening the church to fight the battles in front of us.  If you have never seen yourself as a fighter, as one who is a weapon formed by God to win victory over sin and the works of the enemy, pray that you receive grace for this revelation and learn to walk in it.

God is raising up those who will be the weapons (the warriors, the fighters in the kingdom of God) because of the completed work of Grace that He is doing in us.  Now is the time to take bold actions to take territory from the enemy.  Our key is to receive grace! God’s unmerited favor on you is the key to overcoming.  There is a peace that we carry as His weapons.  A confidence in Him that empowers us to bring forth greater victories than we have ever seen before.

Part of becoming a warrior is to go to battle where you are at. Understand that training requires exercise and know that exercising will wear you down if you don’t get what you need to feed your soul.   Many will see a direct assault on the issues that have been sensitive areas in our lives and the enemy wants us to respond in fear.  We reject the fear of the battle. We reject the fear of failure. We reject the fear surrounding trials and suffering!  Receive the grace God is giving and lean on the blood of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit to win your battles!

This year God is giving us a divine impartation of Grace to become the weapons of God in the earth!
